In 2025, being “socially trendy” isn't just about serving delicious food—it’s about mastering a digital presence that blends visual storytelling, interactivity, and authentic connection. Restaurants are evolving into media channels, leveraging platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and Pinterest to engage audiences with compelling photography, short-form videos, and frequent, relevant content.

Modern food photography has shifted from artistic “food porn” to clean, minimalist styles that highlight ingredients in naturally lit, close-up shots. The trend towards selective focus and height on plates makes dishes visually appealing and contextually Instagrammable. With 40% of diners visiting a restaurant after seeing food photos online and engagement rates rising by up to 60% on photo-rich posts, photo quality is now a core part of the dining experience—shared before the first bite.

Reels and TikTok-style clips now dominate engagement. Sprout Social data shows vertical videos can deliver up to double the engagement rate compared to static posts. Still, restaurants are blending viral appeal—like whimsical chef “day-in-the-life” content—with informative posts, such as showcasing sourcing, cooking methods, and sustainability practices. As The Guardian notes, “edutainment” content is helping fine-dining establishments build both buzz and credibility.

If you want to survive the dead scroll, a consistent posting schedule is critical. According to Hootsuite’s 2025 guidelines, Instagram sees optimal engagement with 3–5 feed posts per week and 2 Stories daily, while TikTok recommends 3–5 Reels weekly. More than quality, frequency sustains visibility in algorithmic feeds: "two good posts a week will get you more overall engagement than 20 mediocre ones," advises Hootsuite’s Trish Riswick.

And it’s not just your company’s content. User-generated content, reviews, and comments now strongly impact decisions. In 2025, 74% of people use social media to choose where to eat, and 88% check reviews before booking. Posts from real diners boost credibility: “Customer photos can enhance a restaurant’s credibility by 30%” says Alison Adams of Jobera in a recent 2024 case study. This means community engagement and rapid response to feedback can prevent diners from “going next door”.

If you’re paying attention to the trends…If you want to stay ahead of the curve in 2026 and 2027, here is what the data is saying about what we can expect to be key social media players for restaurants across the board. With Artificial Intelligence on the rise, generated content will become the norm with tailored Tiktok Reels, Instagram Carousels, and Pinterest pins, with users adapting content based on site analytics and client feedback. We might start to see long-form content also returning. Inspired by rising video podcast trends, restaurants may launch chef interviews or cooking series on YouTube and Instagram LIVE, offering deeper storytelling and community building. And with the longer videos, less frequent content posts. In response to "attention fracking," some restaurants might downshift high-volume posting and lean into authenticity—posting less but with more meaning, as seen with select UK venues taking a minimal or conversation-first approach. But that doesn’t mean you should change strategy mid-pace, as it will take some time for these trends to catch on.

Staying socially trendy in 2025 means more than feeding algorithms—it’s about feeding curiosity. As technology moves toward AI-powered content and immersive previews, restaurants that blend authenticity with innovation will thrive. But for now, high-quality visuals, strategically planning your video content, and maintaining a regular yet meaningful frequency is the recipe. But building user trust by proving your brand is authentic is the icing every cake needs.
